When Craighead County was established in 1859, Senator Craighead was surprised to learn that Senator Jones had named the new county in his honor. To honor Senator Jones, Senator Craighead passed a resolution to name Jonesboro, the new seat of Craighead County, after him. Since then, many improvements have been made to public services in Craighead County. One of the most important changes was the resolution to declare an exemption from competitive bidding for the Craighead County Sheriff's Department to purchase 6 Dodge Durangos.
